Left, right, left, right...

I am very much enjoying the reaction of the left-leaning media to the 9/12 protesters and the ACORN sting videos.

It was perfectly American to have a bumper sticker saying "Bush lied. People died." True patriots carried posters depicting caricatures of Bush as Alfred E. Newman or a monkey or eating a kitten or a French prostitute or even The Joker.

But "Abort Obama" on your truck gets a visit from federal agents who search your house.

And calling Obama a liar is off limits.

And it is unamerican to portray Obama as The Joker or Stalin or Hitler or George Bush III.

Conservatives are shrill, underhanded, intolerant, irrational, and fanatic.

A couple of prime examples are the statement of Nancy Pelosi on Thursday, worried that Joe Wilson was inciting violence akin to the assassination of Harvey Milk. She said:

“I have concerns about some of the language that is being used, because I saw this myself in the late ’70s in San Francisco. This kind of rhetoric was very frightening, and it created a climate in which violence took place.”

We've already discussed the analysis by Jimmy Carter that the criticism is all based on racism.

And there was a fascinating analysis of the conservative movement on PBS when Bill Moyers interviewed author Sam Tanenhaus.
Sam is an editor over at the New York Times so I think you know his political bent.

Video here (an hour long): http://video.pbs.org/video/1266848366/feature/84

He says this is a radical movement that has revenge at its core. In his words, "It's a politics of vengeance."

And there is this rather strange warning from an unknown source that the conservatives need to watch themselves lest they become known as the party of whiners. And no one likes a whiner, especially when they appear on page one or the lead story on your Yahoo! page.
